Successful Open House

Last night was our Open House Night at Millers Creek.  I met 18 of my 21 kids and their families.  Fourth graders are awesome at Open House.  I guess I am used to knowing that little seven year olds will stare blankly at you and hold on to their parent/guardian.  Nine-year-olds, however, expel information about what they hope to learn, their summer adventures and how cool their new classroom looks. I had an awesome time talking to parents, guardians, and my new not-so-little ones.

Here are some pictures of my finished room.  I have my fourth grade team, boyfriend, and roommate to thank for getting this all set up in no time!

This is a Twitter Board I created outside my door.  I think I will use this for kids to respond to learning.  I’m going to teach them about #hashtags and use those for the main ideas/key details/ subjects.

This is a duct tape quilt I created.  I put a 2-D iPad in each student’s bag.  During the first week of school I’m going to have them create “apps” that describe them and we will present to the class!

I’m excited about spending this weekend free from schoolwork. I’ll be relaxing and taking it easy.

Happy Weekend!
